Exploring the Beauty of Batak Music with Niesya Harahap from the Mataniari Music Group

Medan – Mataniari is a music group founded by the late Irwansyah Harahap, a globally recognized artist from Medan, along with his wife, Rithaony. This group specializes in Batak opera and showcases traditional Batak music. Mataniari features esteemed musicians from the Batak Toba community, such as Marsius Sitohang and Sarikawan Sitohang.

The ensemble has successfully captured global attention through its diverse performances.
The success of Mataniari in introducing local Batak culture internationally is deeply tied to the roles of its members.

Among them is Niesya Harahap, who has played a key part in promoting Batak culture through her work with Mataniari. The group’s achievements owe much to her dual role as vocalist and dancer.

Born in Medan on January 19, 1996, Niesya is talented, graceful, and intelligent—qualities that make her an inspiring figure for many young people. Growing up in an arts-and-culture-oriented family, she naturally gravitated toward this world.

From an early age, Niesya was taught the importance of cultural heritage. For her, culture is identity.

“If we don’t know our culture, we don’t know our roots. It’s like an identity crisis,” said Niesya on Friday (May 20, 2022), speaking to DailyKlik in Medan via OnHype Agency.
